ABOUT ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY SPORT & FITNESS
Formed in 1896 from an agreement between the AU Boat Club, AU Lacrosse Club and AU Lawn Tennis Club, Adelaide University Sport and Fitness has played an integral role helping students balance their studies with outside life for more than 130 years - while also supporting staff, alumni, and the wider community to access a wide range of sport and fitness offerings.
Our on-campus social sport events, elite athlete support, state and national intervarsity competitions, and club sports programs help students develop important skills and experiences that not only contribute to student retention and academic performance, but also will open employment doors post-studies - allowing students to build new relationships while encouraging a healthy campus culture.
Our 40+ sports clubs foster a sense of community, promote leadership and encourage excellence, and are open to everyone including those not affiliated with Adelaide University. Our six on-campus gyms are also open to everyone, and support athlete development through training opportunities including strength and conditioning, group fitness, personal training, and work integrated learning.
STRATEGIC PLAN
The Adelaide University Sport and Fitness board began its strategic planning process in 2019 in line with the University of Adelaide strategic plan.
Working in partnership with The Kinetica Group, a strategic review process began and involved extensive consultation with our students, sporting clubs, members, university staff, our partners and the broader university community.
Our 2021-2024 Strategic Plan was developed following input from online surveys, focus groups and workshops, with a strong commitment to our students and the wider Adelaide University Sport and Fitness community.
With the transition to Adelaide University underway in 2025, the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan was continued with a new plan due in 2026.
