
Adelaide University Sport and Fitness provide students at Adelaide University with grant and scholarship opportunities to assist athletes in achieving their goals. Adelaide University Sport’s partnership with Adelaide University and People’s Choice Credit Union proudly support student scholarship opportunities and individual grant funding.
Scholarships offer a range of financial support, with some tailored to specific sports or clubs as part of Adelaide University Sport and Fitness. Individual grant opportunities assist with costs for athletes representing Australia and individuals competing at state, national or international level competitions.
To apply for any Adelaide University Sport and Fitness scholarships, applicants must be enrolled at Adelaide University as a student, and be an active member of an Adelaide University Sport and Fitness club. Students in their first year of university that are looking to join an Adelaide University Sport and Fitness Club are also eligible.
Pathway to Performance individual grants are for athletes from Adelaide University Sport and Fitness-affiliated clubs. Any student-athlete attending UniSport Nationals in Olympics sports are given preference for these grants. The Vice Chancellor (VC) Travel Grant is for Adelaide University students representing Australia in their sport at World Championship or World Cup level (junior or senior).

Provided by Adelaide University, the Adelaide University Sport Scholarship benefits two students per year who are undertaking an undergraduate or honours program at Adelaide University and who have been identified by the University as members of the Sports Association.
ELIGIBILITY
The Applicant must:
- Be an Adelaide University student currently actively studying (as of census date on 27 March 2026).
- Be undertaking an undergraduate or honours program.
- Be enrolled on a full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place.
- Be an active financial member of an Adelaide University Sport and Fitness Club including the High Performance Sport Club.
- Make a considerable contribution to their chosen Adelaide University Sport and Fitness Club.
- Be an Australian Citizen, or Permanent Resident of Australia
Selection criteria
Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:
- Academic merit (GPA or ATAR).
- Demonstrated details of sporting prowess and contributions to Sporting Club development (documentary evidence must be provided at the time of application, e.g. details of club involvement, sporting representation and/or achievement, letter of recommendation from the Sporting Club, or other details of sporting contributions to their chosen University Club sport).
- Answers to questions on the application form.

Awarded to Adelaide University students in their first year of study, the AUSF President Scholarships are a financial incentive to join an Adelaide University Sport and Fitness club.
The scholarship holder must make himself/herself available for club matches including during university holidays, unless special permission is granted by the club and Adelaide University Sport and Fitness. The holder may not play for any other club, on loan or temporary transfer, during the three years of the scholarship.
AUSF President Scholarships are payable to assist with the payment of compulsory fees, textbooks and sporting equipment, as well as the athlete’s club membership fees for up to three years.

The AIS and AUSF Sports Scholarship provides a total funding pool of $5,000 per annum for up to three years. The purpose of the AIS and AUSF Sports Scholarship is to provide financial support to current Australian elite coaches and/or athletes who are committing themselves beyond their training and competitions to pursue tertiary education opportunities at Adelaide University.
Applicants must be categorised athletes by their National Sporting Organisation and Elite Coach applicants must be a coach of NTC/NCE/COE or NIN programs in ASC funded sports. Refer to T&C's for more information.

The Adelaide University Sport & Fitness (AUSF) and Volleyball Australia (VA) Scholarship is a high-performance athlete scholarship designed to support Australia’s elite and emerging volleyball athletes to pursue dual excellence in sport and education. The Scholarship reflects a shared commitment by AUSF and VA to retain and develop Australian volleyball talent domestically, ensuring athletes can remain within the VA high-performance pathway while undertaking tertiary study at Adelaide University. By reducing financial pressure and supporting academic progression, the Scholarship enables athletes to fully engage in the VA training environment and Centre of Excellence programs.
Scholarship Value
The total value of the Scholarship is a once off $10,000 per athlete per year, comprised of:
- $5,000 cash contribution from Adelaide University Sport & Fitness
- $5,000 cash contribution from Volleyball Australia
Funding is intended to support education-related costs and athlete wellbeing while training within the VA high-performance system. The Scholarship holder will have access to the Adelaide University Elite Sport Program supports including further grant funding, academic flexibilities and performance support.
Eligibility Criteria
In addition to the requirements outlined in the General Terms and Conditions, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be categorised by Volleyball Australia at the time of application as:
- Podium
- Podium Potential
- Podium Ready
- Developing
- Emerging
- Representative
- Be training at a Volleyball Australia Centre of Excellence (Adelaide or Brisbane).
- Be intending to enrol, or currently enrolled, as a student at Adelaide University between January 2026 and 31 December 2026.
- Have no anti-doping rule violations or match-fixing offences at any time.
Selection and Assessment Process
Applications will be assessed by the AUSF Assessment Panel (Blues Awards Committee), which includes representatives from Adelaide University Sport & Fitness, the Volleyball Australia high-performance sport system, Alumni athletes, and Independent members.
Eligible applications will be assessed on their individual merits, including how they compare to other applicants. The Assessment Panel will provide recommendations to the AUSF Board of Management, who act as the Scholarship Approver and will make the final decision regarding scholarship recipients, funding allocation amounts, availability of grant funding within the Program.
All decisions made by the AUSF Board of Management are final. There is no review or appeal process.
Scholarship Conditions
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Enter into a formal agreement with AUSF relating to the Scholarship funding
- Provide evidence of successful completion of the unit(s) or course of study for which the Scholarship was awarded, at a pass level or higher, by 31 December each year of study
- The only accepted evidence is an official academic transcript including the recipient’s details and course results
- Submit a summary outlining how the Scholarship funds were spent
- The scholarship holder is expected to represent the University at intervarsity events including World University Games where possible and selected to compete.
Failure to meet these requirements, or withdrawal from study or the VA high-performance program, may result in the Scholarship being suspended or discontinued at the discretion of AUSF and VA.
The scholarship is offered for a duration of a 1 year period, during which time the recipient will receive 2 x $5,000 payments, received upon confirmation of enrolment in Semester 1 and 2. This scholarship is not ongoing and will be open for reapplication at the start of every calendar year. Previous recipients are encouraged to apply and are eligible to receive the scholarship in subsequent years.

- The scholarship recipient cannot promote other financial institutions and agrees to promote People’s Choice Credit Union and their scholarship via social media.
- Scholarship funds of $1,000 will be deposited into a People’s Choice Credit Union account to be accessed by the recipient along with a PCCU shirt to be worn for images to be used for PCCU promotional purposes.
- The scholarship recipient will be asked to participate in a branch activity - e.g. scholarship winners meet and greet - and update People’s Choice Credit Union on how they are going with a quarterly update with PCCU.
- A student profile including images will be requested for social media and newsletter purposes, which the recipient will also post to their on social channels with relevant hashtags.
- The scholarship recipient will be asked to complete an end of year review on how they have used the funds, results, etc.

Bob Heddle was Director of the University Health Service from 1964-1982. The Bob Heddle Scholarship is awarded on merit to unspecified sports highlighting exceptional international performance and result whilst acknowledging the contribution to an Adelaide University Sport club.
Scholarships are presented to an Adelaide University student, who excels in their chosen sport internationally but also gives valuable service to their Adelaide University Sports club. This scholarship is open to coaches (3 or more years) whose team has achieved significant success.

The late Professor Don Stranks was Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President of the University of Adelaide, and a keen supporter of the Adelaide University Football Club and Adelaide University Cricket Club.
Applicants for the Don Stranks Scholarship must excel in either football or cricket, and also give valuable service to either the Adelaide University Football Club or Adelaide University Cricket Club. Applicants nominate themselves, but need the club's support.
The recipient must play Premier First Grade cricket and / or Division 1 football for Adelaide University.

Frances Adamson Scholarship - $2,000
2025 Scholarship Recipient - Rosie Kavanagh
The Frances Adamson Scholarship was established by a donation to the University of Adelaide from the Adelaide University Sports and Fitness Association and a matching donation from Mr Warren Hicks. The Scholarship is in honour of Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia. Her Excellency graduated from the University of Adelaide with a degree in Economics in 1985. While studying, Her Excellency was inaugural female captain of the Adelaide University Boat Club, during the 1984/85 seasons.
The Frances Adamson Scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is undertaking an undergraduate, honours or postgraduate coursework program of study at Adelaide University and has been identified as a member of the Adelaide University Sports and Fitness Association. Students should be an active financial member of the Adelaide University Boat Club.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be undertaking an undergraduate, honours or postgraduate coursework program of study

Elite Sport & Performer Study Grant
APPLICATIONS FOR THIS GRANT ARE NOW CLOSED
The Elite Sport and Performer Study Grant provides financial assistance to students eligible for admission to the Adelaide University Elite Sport and Performer Program.
The grant will be awarded on the basis of financial need, and preference will be given to students who identify with one or more of the following cohorts: students from low-SES backgrounds, and/or students from rural, regional and remote communities, and/or students who are first in family and/or students with disability.

Pathway to Performance
Individual Grants for AUSF Members only.
The Pathway to Performance Grant is a stream of funding providing financial support for international, national and state level athletes, for specific costs (e.g. gym membership, performance testing, travel for national and international championships, etc.). Grants are distributed in tier levels.
Tier 1
Up to $1,500 for athletes competing at the international level only.
- The applicant must be enrolled part time with two to four subjects per semester as a minimum at Adelaide University. Average GPA of credit or higher (also required for Tiers 2 and 3).
- The athlete must have competed internationally and seeking to re-compete or be selected for an international sporting team at the time of submitting the applicaiton.
- Athletes with past performances at the international level and senior level athletes will be given preference.
- A letter of support from your club and coach must be provided (also required for Tier 2).
- Participation in at least one UniSport Nationals event as part of the Adelaide University Sport team, assuming timing does not conflict with international or national calendar.
Tier 2
Up to $750 for athletes competing at national level competitions and / or seeking national selections.
- The applicant must be enrolled full time with three to four subjects per semester as a minimum (also required for Tier 3).
- The athlete must be competing at an NSO National Championships and / or nominating for national selection or equivalent in the current year. Athlete results at a State level must be above average.
- Participation in at least one UniSport Nationals event as part of the Adelaide University Sport team (also required for Tier 3).
Tier 3
Up to $250 for developing and aspiring elite athletes.
- Reasons for applying for this grant must be outlined in the application and reflect the athlete’s aspirations to develop as an elite athlete (e.g. assistance with high performance training, travel to a state or interstate development event).
UNISPORT NATIONALS GRANT
The UniSport Nationals Grant is a stream of funding providing financial support for athletes in the Elite Sport Program to attend UniSport Nationals.
You must be a member of an Adelaide University Sport intervarsity team and attend either a UniSport Nationals multi-sport event or UniSport National Championships event.
Grants are for individual athletes seeking support with:
- Direct financial support for participation at UniSport Nationals or UniSport National Championships events.
Grants are open to Adelaide University students who are members of the Elite Sport Program.
All students must satisfy the following criteria:
- The applicant must currently be enrolled in a minimum of one course and selected to represent the Adelaide University Sport team at a UniSport Nationals or UniSport National Championships event.
- The applicant may also receive funding through Pathway to Performance Grant.
- Athletes may be supported up to $1,000.
Vice Chancellor (VC) Travel Grant
The Vice Chancellor provides sport travel grants to assist Adelaide University students representing Australia in their sport at World Championships (Senior or Junior), Commonwealth and Olympic Games or World University Games.

ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY NETBALL SA FIRST NATIONS SCHOLARSHIP - $22,000*

The Adelaide University Netball SA First Nations Scholarship offers up to $5,000 per year for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students with an affiliation to Netball SA commencing any undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, or pathway program, including online programs at Adelaide University.
Value
- Up to $5,000 per year for up to four years.
- Pro-rata payments apply for part-time enrolment
- A once off additional payment of $500 will be given upon awarding of the Scholarship.
- Recipients who relocate from a rural* area to Adelaide to study will receive an additional payment of $1,500. To be eligible for the relocation grant, the home postcode as recorded in the student record, must be outside of Major Cities in Australia.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must:
- Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Student.
- Be commencing either full-time or part-time in any undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, or pathway program (including Adelaide University Online).
- Have a current affiliation with a Netball SA program/club/association, which has been ongoing for at least 2 years prior to application (this can be as a player, coach, umpire or administrator).
- To be eligible for relocation grant, the home postcode as recorded in your student record must be outside of Major Cities of Australia.
Selection criteria
Applicants must provide a reference letter from their Netball SA program/club/association confirming their affiliation. If the number of eligible candidates exceeds the number of scholarships available, the scholarships will be awarded based on Netball SA affiliation as a player and those relocating.
Important information
Recipients of this Scholarship may be given the opportunity to conduct a work placement with Netball SA or the Adelaide Thunderbirds netball team. Recipients of the Adelaide University Netball SA First Nations Scholarship cannot be in receipt of another Adelaide University funded scholarship (recipients may hold one-off grants and prizes).

Chester Bennett Scholarship - up to $3,000
The Chester Bennett Scholarship is awarded to an Adelaide University Cricket Club player and University undergraduate with the potential to play at the highest level. The scholarship includes a cash amount to assist with the cost of equipment, club membership fees, club kit/uniform. The scholarship also covers the recipient's costs for attending national intervarsity competitions.
Daniell Family and Swift Family Scholarship - $500
Awarded to a volleyball player based on academic achievement, sporting participation and performance, leadership qualities, and extracurricular activities.
GOODES O'LOUGHLIN ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY GO SCHOLARSHIP - $30,000*

This scholarship is open to high achieving Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students of the Adelaide University‚ who are residing in South Australia and enrolled in any of the following undergraduate programs:

- Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science
- Bachelor of Human Movement
- Bachelor of Human Movement majoring in Secondary Health and Physical Education/Master of Teaching (Secondary)

Value
- $10‚000 per year up to a maximum of three years (up to $30‚000 in total) provided the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Payment will be made in two instalments after the Semester 1 and Semester 2 census dates.
- Pro-rata payments will apply for part-time enrolment.
Eligibility
Applicants must be residents of South Australia at the time of application. If successful‚ the awardee is expected to reside in South Australia during the term of the scholarship. The recipient is required to act as a positive ambassador for the scholarship to encourage tertiary education participation by other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Selection criteria
Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit (as evidenced by ATAR‚ STAT or performance in an Adelaide University Pathways and Participation program) or Grade Point Average (GPA) for continuing students‚ and a personal written statement outlining:
- Academic achievements.
- Reasons for studying their current program – their interest in pursuing a health and/or fitness related degree program.
- Describe any community service that you have undertaken or intend to undertake in the near future.
- Describe your family heritage and your connection to community.
- Future career goals.
Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate financial need.
Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Important information
Existing recipients‚ who have completed a bachelor degree in the health science area‚ may have their scholarship continue upon admittance to any postgraduate research or coursework program, up to the maximum value of the scholarship and subject to meeting scholarship ongoing criteria.

Max Weir MEMORIAL Intervarsity Hockey TRAVEL GRANT - $800
In 2016, the Adelaide University Hockey Club determined to remember and honour Max Weir's contribution to the Club through the creation of the Max Weir Memorial Intervarsity Hockey Travel Grant. Donations were sought for an annual grant which consists of a financial contribution towards travel and accommodation costs of an Adelaide University student playing hockey at UniSport Nationals.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must:
- Have attended, or have committed to attend at, the UniSport Nationals in the sport of Hockey
- Be an active financial member of the Adelaide University Hockey Club (AUHC)
- Be undertaking undergraduate, Honours, or postgraduate program of study at the Adelaide University
- Be enrolled on a full time basis

RANTANEN REYNOLDS FAMILY SPORT MANAGEMENT GRANT - $3,000
APPLICATIONS FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP ARE NOW CLOSED
The Rantanen Reynolds Family Sport Management Grant is available to female students enrolled in the first‚ second or third year of the Bachelor of Business majoring in Sport Management.
The Grant provides assistance with the cost of participating in the program‚ as well as general living expenses. Funds may also be used to participate in extra-curricular activities‚ such as travel‚ which will broaden horizons and contribute to the recipient’s future success in sport and recreation management.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must:
- Be an Australian Citizen‚ Permanent Resident of Australia‚ holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa or New Zealand Citizens.
- Be a female student.
- Be a commencing or continuing student enrolled in the Bachelor of Business majoring in Sport Management (BBUSI).
