The Adelaide University Sport and Fitness Annual General Meeting held Monday 20 October saw the election and appointment of seven Board Directors - bringing together a diverse group of leaders committed to advancing sport, fitness and wellbeing at Adelaide University.

Re-elected to the Board was current President David Penn, continuing his long-standing support of the university’s clubs and their athletes. Joining him as elected Board members are first-time Directors Ashley Muir, Alice Sabine and Kendra Backstrom.

Muir represented Australia at the 2022 Invictus Games in a range of sports, and now acts as a program facilitator for Port Adelaide Football Club’s ADF Veterans Program which promotes physical activity, wellbeing and social connection among veterans. Sabine, a current UoA student and member of the AU Waatu Women’s Basketball team, is the 2025 recipient of the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness / People’s Choice Credit Union Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Scholarship. Backstrom, a University of Adelaide alumni and current staff member, brings more than two decades of experience in the property and construction industry, specialising in facilities planning and program delivery.

In addition to these elected Directors, the Board appointed three further Directors: Patrick Schultz, Wishayanant Thirasantikamol and Tyson Felix-Smith.

Schultz is an active member and coach of the UniSA Athletics Club and has also served as Treasurer, and is involved at Kensington Community Leisure Centre (YMCA SA) as Program Director. Thirasantikamol, a UoA student and member and Treasurer of the AU Fencing Club, recently represented the university at UniSport Nationals. Felix-Smith, an independent Director, is a University of Adelaide staff member and serves as Secretary of the Adelaide University Childcare Services Board, and as a member of the UniSuper Consultative Committee.

At the first meeting of the new Board on Monday 17 November, David Penn was re-elected as President and Kim Evans was re-elected as Deputy President.

Adelaide University Sport and Fitness congratulates all elected and appointed Directors.
