We are pleased to announce the recipients of the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness, People’s Choice Credit Union Scholarships for 2024!

Sponsored by People’s Choice Credit Union, these scholarships, totaling three awards of $1,000 each, are dedicated to empowering University of Adelaide students in their pursuit of academic excellence and athletic endeavours.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

  • Alana Tiller, Adelaide University Sport and Fitness, People’s Choice Credit Union Athlete with a Disability Sports Scholarship
  • Victoria Cholsh, Adelaide University Sport and Fitness, People’s Choice Credit Union Women In Sport Scholarship
  • Alice Sabine, Adelaide University Sport and Fitness, People’s Choice Credit Union Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Scholarship

Alana Tiller is the recipient of the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness, People’s Choice Credit Union Athlete with a Disability Sports Scholarship for 2024!

Alana Tiller is a remarkable individual whose resilience and determination is truly inspiring. Navigating life with around 2% vision due to Oculocutaneous Albinism, Alana refuses to let anything hold her back. Guided by her faithful companion, Rocket, her guide dog, Alana is a third-year Bachelor of Psychological Science student at the University of Adelaide.

Excelling in athletics before embracing para athlete sport, particularly Goalball, Alana secured a silver medal in the 2019 IBSA Goalball Youth World Championships. In 2020, she ventured into 10m air rifle shooting, aided by cutting-edge infrared LED audio-sighting equipment. Under the guidance of the National Rifle Talent Coach of Shooting Australia, Alana aims to challenge perceptions and showcase the capabilities of vision-impaired athletes on an international stage.

When asked about what this scholarship means to her, Alana responded by stating;

"This scholarship represents a lot as I continue my endeavours in sport. Vision Impaired Air Rifle Shooting is not currently a highly recognised sport, especially in Australia and therefore I am financially supporting my own endeavours and competitions. This scholarship will allow me to be supported financially in range fees, interstate competitions across Australia and equipment I can purchase to advance in the sport. While I have many personal supports around me, my family and friends, coaches and my Guide Dog Rocket, this scholarship reminds and motivates me that I have various other supports around my sporting endeavours and in the future hopefully travel internationally."

Victoria Cholsh is the recipient of the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness, People’s Choice Credit Union Women In Sport Scholarship for 2024!

Victoria's passion for athletics began in primary school, when she found an interest in pushing herself past her limits and barriers. Starting at a primary school athletics carnival, her love for running grew steadily. In high school, she committed herself to training with a coach, leading to numerous successes in state and national competitions.

In 2023, Victoria claimed victory in the women's 800m at the UniNationals Athletics, proudly representing the University of Adelaide. Adding to her accomplishments, she recently secured gold in the 1500m final at the 2024 UniNationals Athletics held in Queensland.

Balancing her athletic pursuits with academic endeavours, Victoria is currently studying for a Bachelor of Science in High Performance Computational Physics (Honours) at the University of Adelaide. Her ultimate goal is to represent Australia internationally, and we can’t wait to watch her continued success as she reaches for her goal!

When asked about what this scholarship means to her, Victoria told us that;

“I am extremely grateful to be the recipient of the AUSF, People's Choice Credit Union Women in Sport Scholarship for 2024. I have trained and competed as a middle-distance runner for 7 years and have had the honour of representing South Australia and the University of Adelaide at national competitions. These races, such as Athletics UniSport Nationals, have been the most beneficial in helping me grow and learn as an athlete. They have helped me to believe in myself and my future goals more and more. Every race is more experience gained and lessons learnt and makes up the foundations to becoming the athlete I aspire to be. This scholarship will support me to continue training for and competing at these competitions. It means a lot to me that the selection panel have chosen to believe in my potential to grow as an athlete and support me in my future athletic pursuits.”

Alice Sabine is the recipient of the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness, People’s Choice Credit Union Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Scholarship for 2024!

Alice Sabine's athletic journey began with Little Athletics before she found her passion in basketball. Sport has instilled valuable traits in Alice, like discipline and teamwork, shaping her both athletically and academically.

As a committed member of the Norwood Flames basketball club, Alice has achieved state recognition with basketball. Notable milestones include selections in South Australian and NBL1 representative teams, and winning the 2024 Greatest Contribution to Sport award. She also shines as a key player for the AU Waatu University Basketball League team, proudly representing the University of Adelaide across the country.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine at the University of Adelaide, Alice aims to excel in sport, while giving back through coaching and advocacy.

When asked about what this scholarship means to her, Alice informed us that;

"Receiving the AUSF People’s Choice Credit Union Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Scholarship for 2024 is an incredible honour and it means the world to me. It will financially enable me to fund my travel to the Sunshine Coast in early July to represent the University of Adelaide in the annual UniSport 3X3 basketball nationals. I want to extend my gratitude to all the lovely people at Adelaide University Sport, especially Michelle and Jacqui, whose unwavering support through the AU Waatu University Basketball League (UBL) program have made my transition to university life seamless. Being my first year at University, I am so grateful for the experiences the UBL has brought me so far and I am so excited to be able to continue that through to 3X3 nationals later on this year. This experience wouldn't be possible without the generous assistance of this scholarship, and I am eager to make the most of this opportunity to grow both personally and athletically."
