LATEST UPDATE
After two months of home and away games, the University of Adelaide's Waatu teams have both successfully navigated their way to the finals of the New Balance University Basketball League - each setting their best win-loss records (5-4) and highest finishes.
In the last week of games, the men's team defeated University of Tasmania 90-88 in a thriller, and the women dominated University of Sydney with a 74-56 win. Each team will face a first round playoff matchup against these same teams to kick off finals next week.

Game 6: university of western australia, thursday september 11
Game 6 saw the AU Waatu travel west to take on the University of Western Australia and take one step closer to finals. With UWA celebrating their Pride Round, the crowd was hot, but both women and men sides prevailed in tight contests to clinch an AU Waatu clean sweep. Jemima Whitton and Curtis Scott took home the MVP awards for the week, both putting in dominant performances. Each win now moves the men and women sides into the top 8 of their respective ladders. Game 5: victoria university, wednesday august 27
The last Victorian roadtrip for the regular season saw the AU Waatu face off against Victoria University in what were close battles. The women were first up and clawed their way to a victory, earning their third win for the season. The men followed but fell short to a strong VU side. Caitlin Shillabeer and new recruit Curtis Scott picked up MVP honours.
Game 4: federation university, wednesday august 20
Federation University were next up in the Victorian roadtrip, with the men's and women's sides looking to get back on the winners list. Night games in Ballarat saw the women kick off the evening with a win, followed by the men. New recruit Tom Mestrov picked up the MVP award for the men, clinching a double-double as Meaza Otto secured her first MVP award for the women.
Game 3: la trobe university, wednesday august 13
The first away trip for the AU Waatu saw them kick off their first of three consecutive Victorian trips against La Trobe University. The UBL champions of last season (2024) proved too strong for our women's and men's sides with gusty performances across the board from the AU Waatu. Isaac Hampel and Annika Uzcategui both earned their first MVP awards for the season.
Game 2: university of sunshine coast, wednesday august 6
The AU Waatu jumped straight into game 2 against the University of Sunshine Coast in what were close battles. AU Waatu women fell just short to a strong UniSC side as the men claimed their first win of 2025. Jemima Whitton earned her first MVP award for the season as Bailey Nathan put in another strong performance to claim his second MVP award. View the full game 2 photo album here.
Game 1: university of newcastle, tuesday august 5
The 2025 New Balance University Basketball League kicked off against newcomers, the University of Newcastle on August 5 at the State Basketball Centre. A reinvigorated women's side put on a dominant performancer to claim the first win for the AU Waatu in 2025 as the men's side gave it their all but fell short. Caitlin Shillabeer and Bailey Nathan starred, earning MVP awards for their first games of the season. View the full game 1 photo album here.
