Her Excellency was born and grew up in South Australia and studied economics at the University of Adelaide, while there becoming the first female captain of the boat club in its 103-year history. The boat club was one of three initial clubs that formed what is now today Adelaide University Sport and Fitness.

In 2016, Her Excellency was appointed head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, pursuing Australia’s interests as world powers shifted and the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. She also led the department through a period of cultural change, encouraging more women into senior ranks. She has also been International Adviser to the Prime Minister and Chief of Staff to the Foreign Minister and Defence Minister.

In June 2021, Her Excellency was made a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to public administration through the advancement of Australia's diplomatic, trade and cultural interests, particularly with the People's Republic of China and the Indo-Pacific region, to innovative foreign policy development and high level program delivery, and as the 36th Governor appointed in South Australia.

Her Excellency is a Dame of Grace of the Order of St John and patron of some 120 organisations in her own right and more than 50 jointly with her husband Rod.

From UniNationals to the world stage, Chloe Dalton is one of Australia’s elite triple-sport athletes - winning an Olympic Games gold medal with the Australian Rugby Sevens team in 2016, and competing at the top level as both a WNBL (Sydney Uni Flames) and AFLW (Carlton & GWS Giants) player.

She is the founder of The Female Athlete Project, a women’s sports media platform reaching millions of people globally. In 2023 she authored Girls Don’t Play Sport, a manifesto for supporting female athletes at all levels, and children's book The A to Z of Who I Could Be. Chloe is also a commentator, MC, and regular panellist on Channel 9’s Wide World of Sports. At the 2017 Australia Day Honours she received the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to sport.

Adelaide University student and proud South Australian Georgie Horjus has made her mark on Australian netball at just 24 years of age - from winning the Suncorp Super Netball Player of the Year award during the Adelaide Thunderbirds' 2024 premiership campaign, to playing a pivotal role for the Diamonds as they regained the Constellation Cup from rivals New Zealand in 2025.

Joining the team for the first time in 2019 at the age of just 17, her outstanding leadership throughout the years resulted in Horjus being named Thunderbirds co-captain in 2026. Her international career goes from strength to strength, featuring in all three Diamonds games against Jamaica to begin the year.

Eloise Jones is a dual premiership player with the Adelaide Crows, Rising Star nominee, and 40-woman All Australian squad member. Her experience has provided her with the opportunity to pass on her knowledge to girls in the elite pathway, coaching South Australia’s under-15 girls team and assisting with coaching elite talent at the Adelaide Crows AFLW Academy, ensuring a strong future for women’s football in South Australia.

Alice Sabine is an elite multi-sport athlete studying at Adelaide University, and the 2025 recipient of the People’s Choice Scholarship for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Athletes. Alice represents the AU Waatu Women’s team in the University Basketball League and the Norwood Flames in the NBL1 competition, as well as competing in mid-long distance running.

Alice is a proud Indigenous student-athlete, and alongside her achievements in competition, she is deeply committed to giving back through community initiatives. Her work with the Happy Boxes Project provides essential personal care items to Indigenous women in remote communities who might otherwise go without - promoting self-care, empowering women, and supporting community.
