Play With Pride Returns to Lead the Conversation on LGBTIQA+ Inclusion in Sport

Published Fri 25 Jul 2025

The 2025 edition of Play With Pride, an afternoon event celebrating LGBTIQA+ inclusion in sport and beyond, will take place on Friday 22 August 2025, from 2–5pm at the iconic Bonython Hall at The University of Adelaide.

Presented by Adelaide University Sport & Fitness in collaboration and with support from The University of AdelaideDivision of Academic and Student Engagement, Play With Pride unites athletes, advocates, and allies for bold conversations, real stories, and practical actions that inspire change.

This year’s event will be hosted by Ali Clarke (she/her) and features a powerful lineup of guest speakers and panellists who are leading the way for inclusion in sport.

Headlining the event is Isaac Humphries (he/him), professional basketballer, singer and mental health advocate, who made history in 2022 as the first openly gay male professional basketballer in Australia. He’ll appear alongside host, Ali Clarke for a powerful and personal conversation as he shares his journey and reflect on how sport can be a powerful platform for inclusion and representation.

Guests will also hear from a diverse panel of sporting voices, including:

  • Chelsea Randall (she/her), triple AFLW premiership captain and Adelaide Crows champion

  • Marnee Silver (they/them), AFL coach and Pride Cup leader driving inclusive change at community and elite levels

  • María José “Cote” Rojas (she/her), Chilean international footballer and founder of Supersede Athlete Performance

This panel will explore sport’s evolving role in fostering inclusive and welcoming environments. Panellists will share their insights, experiences, and perspectives, followed by an interactive Q&A where audience members can submit questions and join the conversation.

“Sport is one of the most powerful tools we have to unite people across all identities, backgrounds, and experiences,” said Michelle Wilson, CEO of Adelaide University Sport and Fitness.

“Play with Pride is more than an event – it’s a statement that inclusion in sport isn’t optional, it’s essential. By creating visible, welcoming spaces for LGBTIQA+ people both on and off the field, we can break down barriers and create meaningful change in our clubs, communities, and workplaces. It takes courage, it takes commitment – and every one of us has a role to play. That’s why we’ve brought this event back for a second year – to highlight the ongoing importance of inclusion and the powerful role sport plays in making it happen.”
