Standards

The Blues Committee recognises that comparing clubs and sports is not an easy task. Factors such as the sport size, the competition level and the pathways within each sport can make this task difficult. To ensure all who receive an award are of similar calibre, 'club standards' are set to ensure consistency but still cater for sport and club differences. Clubs are asked to refer to their club standards when discussing potential nominees and complete the online application form by the due date.  All applications will then be reviewed, discussed and ratified by the Blues Committee.

A nomination must be:

  • Received within six months after the nominee has last competed for the club/participated in club activities

  • A letter of support from the club/person(s) making the nomination must accompany the nomination

  • Completed by a member of the Club Committee on the AUSF nomination form.

Unsporting Behaviour

None of the awards, a Blue, Half Blue or Club Letters, may be awarded to a person who has acted in an unsporting manner to the detriment of the welfare of such person’s club or the prejudice of the dignity and honour of AU Sport or the University.

Review of Standards

The Blues Committee recommends that each club review their standards at least once every three to five years and ideally this should be done by an established Blues Committee or Sub-Committee appointed by the club. The review period is open every year between November and May, and clubs should do this in consultation with us. More information about the process can be found in the Blues Guidelines.

Intervarsity Certificate of Merit

The criteria for the award are as follows:

  1. The Adelaide University student athlete must take part in an Adelaide University Sport recognised Intervarsity competition including but not limited to: Australian University Sport sanctioned events (Uni Nationals/Championships), interclub Intervarsity competitions, University Rugby 7s and Go8 competitions.

  1. They must be recognised for their special performance at the event (eg MVP or competition award).

  1. For the UniSport Nationals, the athlete must have contributed greatly to either the team as a whole or the sport club which organised the sport team for the nationals, but did not play for that Adelaide University Sport club as its highest team was not of sufficient standard.  Athletes who compete in a sport that was not affiliated through Adelaide University Sport (eg handball, lawn bowls and ten pin bowling), would also be eligible.

  1. The recognition be termed as an Adelaide University Sport Intervarsity ‘Certificate of Merit’ for outstanding performances and be given at the annual Blues awards function.

  1. Nominations would be sought from Adelaide University Sport clubs and Intervarsity team managers.

A student athlete can only receive one award per sport played at the University.

For assessment of ‘level of contribution’ in criterion 2 above, the board would make that decision based on recommendations provided by the Adelaide University Sport and Fitness staff.

Club Letters – Service and Competition

Those who are not Adelaide University students, but are Adelaide University Sport club members, are able to be nominated for Club Letter - Service and Competition awards. Club Letters recognise individuals who make their clubs great.

  • Think about the person(s) who help your club run smoothly (committee members, coaches, team managers and uniform-washers etc). If they have done it for long enough, ‘Club Letters (Service)’ is the right award for them.

  • Think about the athletes in your club who have been playing for many years. ‘Club Letters (Competition)’ is the right award for them.

  • Club Letters awards can only be awarded once for each category to a member.
