COME AND TRY FITNESS
Being on a student budget is something many of us are familiar with. We also recognise how important movement is for your health and wellbeing. This free program is intended for University of Adelaide students who have limited or no experience in group fitness classes. You can attend as many sessions as you like over the year.
The Come and Try Fitness program is a collaboration between the University of Adelaide Student Health and Wellbeing team and the Adelaide University Sport Fitness Hub. Combining a range of various fitness class with interactive workshops on healthy living and movement, this program offers a holistic approach to one's journey with exercise, nutrition, and overall wellbeing.
This program is available at The Fitness Hub at North Terrace.
UPCOMING SESSIONS - BOOK NOW
YIN YOGA
Yin Yoga is a slow, relaxing style of yoga where poses are held for 3–5 minutes (or more) to gently stretch the deep connective tissues - fascia, ligaments, and joints - rather than the muscles. Unlike more dynamic styles, Yin targets areas like the hips, pelvis, spine, and lower back, inviting stillness, surrender, and introspection.
STRETCH & MOVE
Improve how you move and feel every day! This class focuses on joint health, flexibility, and range of motion through controlled exercises that build long-term strength and mobility. Ideal for anyone looking to move better and prevent injury. This session takes place in the gym cardio and weights rooms, and gives you access to gym equipment. A trainer/instructor is available throughout the session to demonstrate this equipment for beginners to ensure you know how it can be used.
MAT PILATES
Our beginner-friendly Mat Pilates class is the perfect way to build strength, improve flexibility, and feel more connected to your body - no experience needed. We'll guide you through each movement with simple, clear instructions in a welcoming, supportive environment. Just bring a mat and a willingness to move - your stronger, more balanced self-starts here!
INTRODUCTION TO GYM TRAINING
Learn how to navigate the gym, use equipment safely, and build a balanced workout routine. This session takes place in the gym cardio and weights rooms, and gives you access to gym equipment. A trainer/instructor is available throughout the session to demonstrate this equipment for beginners to ensure you know how it can be used.
MEDITATION & UNWIND
Meditation is the practice of turning inward - creating space between your thoughts, connecting to your breath, and returning to the present moment. It offers a path back to clarity, calm, and inner stillness. In these sessions, we’ll explore a variety of meditation styles - both guided and silent, using breath, visualization, mantra, and body awareness. You’ll be supported in finding what works for you, whether you're seated, lying down, or even resting in restorative postures.

DURING THE CLASSSome equipment can be difficult to master on your first attempt, so during a Come and Try Fitness class your trainer/instructor will take you through a series of workout routines, all while showing you how to properly use any equipment required. For stretch-based classes, our trainers/instructors are experienced in various disciplines and will teach a beginner-level class, helping you to understand the health benefits of your workout. If you feel uncomfortable at any stage, you can stop taking part in the class - there is no requirement to finish. Classes last for around 30 to 60 minutes, with most at a low intensity - although you can go harder if you'd like! |

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTSThe gym space is for everyone. We welcome students who are having difficulties accessing fitness - including those with disabilities, neurodiversions, or language difficulties. Our trainers/instructors aim to make The Fitness Hub a welcoming gym, and the goal of the Come and Try Fitness program is to get you comfortable with fitness, the gym, and making a positive difference to your health and wellbeing through movement. The Come and Try Fitness program is a great way to make new friends - especially with students in a similar position. Who knows, maybe in time you'll start heading to the gym together, or pursuing your fitness goals in the outdoors! |
