Information for members interested in nominating for a Board position
The AUSF Board of Management supports the performance and compliance of AUSF to defined strategic directions and legislative requirements. In practice, the role of the board includes governing, directing, and monitoring AUSF business, affairs, and operations in two broad areas, being:
- Overall organisational performance: ensuring AUSF develops and implements strategies and supporting policies to enable it to fulfill the objectives set out in the AUSF constitution. Day to day operations of AUSF are delegated to AUSF staff, however, the board remains accountable to members for the organisation’s performance. The board monitors and supports management in an ongoing way.
- Overall compliance/conformance: ensuring AUSF develops and implements systems, processes, and procedures to enable it to comply with its legal, regulatory, and industry obligations (complying with the law and adhering to accounting, sport, and recreation, and membership organisation standards) and ensure the AUSF assets and operations are not exposed to undue risks through appropriate risk management.
Time commitment
Board meetings are held on a Monday night (normally the second Monday of the month), beginning at 5.30pm and lasting for approximately 1.5 hours. Board members are encouraged to attend quarterly Sports Council meetings, also on a Monday night commencing at 6.00pm and lasting for approximately 1 hour. Board and Council papers are distributed during the week prior to each meeting and would reasonably require 30 to 60 minutes of reading time, depending on the size of the meeting’s agenda.
Meetings schedule
There are 11 Board meetings held per year, with no meeting scheduled in January.
